What is Struthof?

“Struthof” is an Alsatian place-name where the only concentration camp located on French soil during the Second World War was built (Alsace was part of Nazi Germany at that time). Today “Struthof” is the generic name for one of the main places of the remembrance of political deportation in France. The name groups together the former Natzweiler concentration camp, monument “to the martyrs and heroes of deportation”, National Necropolis (with graves of French citizens who died in deportation), KL-Natzweiler Museum and European Centre of Deported Resistance Members.
