”The head of my network didn’t want to have me smuggled into Spain. He thought it was too dangerous and preferred using me in France. I wanted to fight. On the spur of the moment, when I heard about a network in Perpignan I dove straight in. My father gave me a little money. I reached a café. The password was “the word of the Gospel”… There were around 10 of us, all teenagers. I was reluctant to stay. Then the smuggler arrived. We got into a tarp-covered lorry. After 10 kilometers it parked on a trail in a vineyard, where the Germans were waiting for us.”
