« Monte Sole » exhibition

Sculpture, painting, photography : From 1st march 2017

The CERD is pleased to present its new artistical exhibition : « Monte Sole ».

It is a beautiful and wild mountainous area located near Bologna in Italy that bears the name « Monte Sole ». The landscape resembles the one in Struthof – same mountains, same wilderness. Furthermore, in both places, the Second World War left some terrible traces.

In Monte Sole, between September 29th 1944 and October 5th 1944, Nazi soldiers killed 216 children, 316 women and 142 people who were above their sixties. The massacre took place in 115 different places such as churches, houses, small villages…

In Natzweiler Struthof, the Nazis built in 1941 a concentration camp where thousands of people died and were burned in the crematorium.

Both of those tragedies, one in Italy and one in France, remind us of the european dimension of the Nazi crime. Everywhere in Europe, regardless of the country, people who didn’t match with the Nazi political and racial conception of the world were murdered.

Within this exhibition, the CERD gives a voice to four artists, each coming from different parts of Europe. Using different techniques, they all dealt with the traces left by the Second World War, with the wounds and the deaths in our memories.
