Against barbarism: Commit Resist Fight

The three-part permanent exhibition is central to visiting the European Centre on Resistance and Deportation.

A movie redraws the history of the construction of the camp and puts the context of the visit

On the lower level, visitors discover the Kartoffelkeller. The deportees themselves constructed this large reinforced concrete building between 1943 and 1944. The exhibition space, which is arranged in a U-shape around the cellar, features an impressive series of vaults and thick concrete walls.

Fourteen sections including many photographs illustrate the rise of Fascism and Nazism in Europe, Hitler’s policies and the resistance movements that rose up against oppression and fought for freedom. The exhibition ends with the building of Europe and new threats against peace.
