UFF: French Women’s Union. A women’s Resistance movement founded in mid-1944 continuing the work of the “women’s committees” and closely tied to the Communist Party. At the Liberation, many women joined the CDL or CLL as UFF delegates.
USTASHA: name of the Croat nationalist party that Ante Pavelich founded in 1929. At first he received support from Fascist Italy before being imprisoned after that country and Yugoslavia signed an agreement in 1937. When Germany occupied Yugoslavia in en April 1941, Pavelich became the head of the Croat State. He fought against Tito’s partisans, persecuted Jews and massacred Serbs. The movement survived the creation of the federal Yugoslav State in 1945.
